2023 Maryland Legislative Session Begins: Physician-Assisted Suicide Bill Expected

Posted on

We want to wish a happy New Year to all of our coalition members who have dedicated their time and talents to defeating physician-assisted suicide (PAS) in Maryland year-after-year. The Maryland General Assembly’s 2023 legislative session begins today, January 11th and we are again anticipating that legislation which would legalize PAS will be introduced this session. With your ongoing support and dedication, we will be able to defeat this legislation once again.

Regardless of what the bill looks like when it is filed, what we have been saying all along still stands: there is no way to fix this bill. There are no safeguards that can truly protect against the coercion and abuse of vulnerable populations. There is no legislative solution to the fact that doctors cannot accurately predict a terminal diagnosis. There is no way to cover up in legislation that patients in states where this is legal are requesting the lethal drugs because they feel like they are a burden on their family, not because they are in pain. We could go on and on.

With your help, we can call on our state leaders to reject this dangerous legislation when it is introduced and stand up for Maryland’s most vulnerable residents. We are asking for the members of our bipartisan Coalition, once a bill is filed, to join us in voicing our opposition to the legalization of PAS!

Please make sure that you are following us on Twitter and Facebook to stay as up to date as possible, and urge your family, friends, and colleagues to sign up on our website to receive our newsletter.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Sincerely,

Maryland Against Physician Assisted Suicide
